Great for runs to the local beach for Bob-walkin', the chippy and similar and comes with the added bonus you could hire it out to your next door neighbours (golf club) as a unique golf cart for £100 (or more) a week. Would soon pay for itself that way.

I like the tenuous link from the Marina ad to this one - same designer involved in both! Just need to see a Cortina estate for the hat-trick!

I was always under the impression Roy Haynes designed the Mk3 Cortina before joining BL and designing the Marina, the ebay listing credits him as designing the Mk2 Cortina. A quick search reveals the Mk2 Cortina was indeed Roy Haynes last Cortina for Ford before joining BL then leaving to create ElecTraction who built the electric buggy you're looking at.

Much more about him there!

I hadn’t heard of Roy Haynes until this morning Dave, but it seems he was about 40 years ahead of his time. I’m guessing the nine 8v batteries would give the buggy the performance and range of a milk float back in the day, but that wouldn’t matter much in and around ‘Vegas.

I suppose it wouldn’t be all that difficult to replace the drive train, control system and batteries with those from a modern EV (from something like a written off Nissan Leaf) and so achieve much better performance and range, but it would be a pity to lose 50 years of history.

According to Russell Hayes' "Ford Cortina - the complete history pp216" John Falls and a team under Ron Bradshaw "had been credited as largely responsible for the MkIII Cortina"; much of the detail work was "borrowed" from former GM styling chief Semon 'Bunkie" Knudsen, whom Ford had poached from GM.

I can see a nice little business opportunity here. Get it licenced for wedding ceremonies and park it up on the front. You would have the Wayne's and Chardonnay's queueing up when they roll out the nightclubs.

Excellent. I could loiter outside Butlins just as the foam party ends at 02:00 each morning. Between then and dawn I could probably make a monkey every day.

The Austin Cambridge VWW made £7,600 at auction. In the context of the daft prices we sometimes see I think that was a good price.
