Trevor Burgess in Hyde (Manchester) is also a good independent Volvo specialist, as are Hallmark in Stockport as Simmy mentions. I'm not sure if either of these will fit auxiliary heaters though. I guess phone and ask the question is the best way. Google those names for contact info.

rob the owner of trevor burgess volvo is a great guy and knows his stuff and has full vida subscription which also allows the programming of new keys i would still ask at john hollands abt the heater as they have multiple volvo experts it costs nothing to ask they may even give the same answer as rob at TB so it would be nice to know if its possible for the information of others who maybe considering such a task

I imagine retrofitting an aux heater is a specialised job. It won't be cheap either and finding somewhere that does it won't be easy. Garages that do general repairs/diagnostics to Volvo's like Trevor Burgess probably don't get involved in that side of things in hindsight. The only thing I can think of is maybe trying camper conversion places. They might have some knowledge on that side of things. Or try some auto electricians.

I don't know for certain, but from reading the manual it sounds like the aux heater works in combination with the climate control, so presumably uses the same vents. If Volvo say it can't be done after leaving the factory, I'm inclined to believe they might not be lying.
I've had experience with Ebersparcher before, but they're not small. These are the kinds of things you find on boats, campers, buses, coaches, etc. I'm not convinced one could be made to fit, but happy to be proven wrong. Maybe they make something for easy car conversion. I suppose, legally, since you're only heating with it you could use a seperate tank somewhere with red diesel. But that means finding even more empty space on the vehicle, and I'm getting ahead of myself again. It's the coachbuilder in me. I should just let it go, but... some wounds cut deep. |

If it turns out to be hard to find somewhere that can fit the aux heater and program it, I think this could be a scenario where it may not be worth the hassle. Dare I say, if an aux heater was a must, it'd be better and probably easier to buy a car from abroad with this as a factory fitted option and import it. That wouldn't be cheap either, but at least its done and done properly. Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but if Volvo UK say it can't be done, I'd also be inclined to agree with them. I'm also happy to be proven wrong on that, but I wish the OP well. Hopefully he does find somewhere that can do it and will share the experience with us and for future readers too. Not too sure how insurance would fair out though. If it was retrofitted, it could well be classed as a modification to the car and increase the premium or void it if you didn't tell them. Whereas, if its done from the factory, that's a different scenario.

It does not send warm air through the vents, it just heats the coolant circuit, so heats the engine, which means the climate can then take the heat from the engine as it would when it is running. So it has to interface with the coolant circuit (with I assume a diverter for when it is not running) then get a source of electricity, an interface with the canbus and of course a petrol supply.
Nothing is impossible, bit some things are impractical or cost prohibitive. I would suggest this idea is cost prohibitive.
