Fuel pressure gauge connection

Hi,

I would like to measure the fuel pressure on my 240 but I'm not sure exactly what connectors I need to insert the gauge. In the green book it says to insert the pressure gauge between the fuel hose and the rail and details some original Volvo parts that are required. If I buy a generic gauge like the one linked below, will this have the bits I need or do I need something additional?

I did this once on a previous car. There was an ordinary tyre-type outlet on the underside of the injector rail, and I just tried an old tyre pressure gauge on it while the engine was idling. The test was satisfactory, but the tyre gauge never worked again - obviously the rubber was not petrol-proof!

I've just checked on my present car two years older but it doesn't seem to have the outlet.

The regulator seems to either work or not. The standard test is just to pull off the rubber vacuum hose and sniff - it it smells of petrol then the diaphram is leaking.

Thanks for the reply. My fuel rail doesn't have the valve, unfortunately, so I need to 'break into' the pipe. The fuel regulator does smell of petrol. I can't see any leaking out and the pipe isn't wet but there is a smell. Does that mean it's leaking?

The dipstick also smells of fuel and there's oil in the vacuum ports on the throttle body.

I'm stripping it down next week and having the injectors serviced. I'll clean everything out, throttle body, IAC, PCB system and replace the gaskets. If it sounds like the pressure regulator has failed, I'll replace that too. I wanted to test the pressure anyway to see if the pump is in order.
