Thumbs up Lamba/Check engine light has come on 1998 S70

Hi,

Hope you all had a good Xmas.

I have a 1998 S70 10v auto non turbo. Was a barn find. Now has 17,000 on the clock.

I have been running it no problems for 4 months.

The car was stood for 3 days after a trip down the motorways for Xmas.
Started it this morning and the Lamba/Check engine light came on.

I appreciate it may not be an O2 sensor. Apart from Vol-FCR European cars unlike USA cars don’t seem to have reasonably priced scan tool available/on the market.

So I write to ask apart from the O2 what are the common sensor failures and is there a reasonably priced scan tool for European 1998 S/V 70?

Thanks very much and a happy new year.

Does anyone happen to know what Protocol Bus System my car uses as this apparently dictates what Vag/Com KKL cable will work if I use Vol-FCR software.

This one works with Vol-FCR on 1998 cars, I use it for my V70.

FWIW, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, that may well clear it. Mine throws it up from time to time with no codes and clears this way.

Default Sadly disconnecting the battery….

Thanks for the help. Sadly disconnecting the battery did not work but cable now bought and awaiting Royal Mail so I can test Vol-FCR Demo.

I did notice a new periodic tick I’ve not heard before at the timing belt end of the engine. Every 5 or 6 seconds. As if something is catching or not switching. If memory serves me there are a few sensors in the area Coolant, Camshaft etc.

Default Cambelt….

Thanks for the reply. It allegedly had a new Cambelt kit in September just gone. There is a sticker giving the date and I have no reason to disbelieve the man but who knows these days.
