Help a newbie identify an alternator?
Hi all! We bought 66 122s a couple of years ago. It’s a fun little drive. I really want to keep it on the road forever. I have very little mechanical experience but a whole lot of can-do attitude. Recently my alternator failed. I took it out and cleaned it, seemed that the components I could reach were still conducting but couldn’t remount it which is when I discovered that the pivot bolt attaching the conversion bracket to the engine was sheared off, but the tensioner arm was fine. After much penetrant and struggle, I removed the broken bolt and remounted the alternator, but alas, it does not charge the battery.
So, I assume I need a new alternator and I have seen a few online. However, I’m not sure which ones will fit the conversion bracket. The old alternator looks rather like a bosch, but the sticker is missing. On the underside, all I found stamped was Made in Germany. The former owner had a thick folder of service records and it seems the conversion was done in 2001 but the invoice only specs “customer supplied parts.”
I’m attaching a couple of photos of the insides and clean outsides and hopefully one of you might recognize it. This little trooper made it 23 years. I can also take more photos, these were my references for putting it back together. The third picture is the bracket, before I cleaned it.
If anyone has a suggestion of anything else I should test, I’m all ears. Thanks in advance.
