No I am convinced now this hole was the sole and only cause. I wonder why it happened out of the blue and so suddenly. I scoured the internet for other instances of punctured brake/clutch hoses and can' find many of them, very few , close to none. Maybe one or two, which raised suspicion by the reporting party. I read there are symptoms of a failing hose, but here there were no symptoms. I can' t find other instances of sudden failure from a puncture or pinhole either, it seems there are usually symptoms that become evident at some point before everything stops working. I am waiting for more info from the mechanic. He also said that **** happens with old cars, but we haven' looked closely at the damage yet and the condition of the hose itself, and then again there has to be a plausible explanation from a mechanical perspective. Might just be a total coincidence, on the other hand this part of the system and hose is rather easily accessible without keys to the car and I did receive a few death threats and the likes , reason why I am inclined to investigate. I can definitely imagine that technically one could set this up so the failure is triggered by a bumpy road (which I had just traveled onto before the incident). I know ... stuff of the movies but ....
