Horn push removal
Hi I have owned my P1800S for six months and I am just starting to do a few improvement jobs. Firstly need to change the horn push any advice on how to remove it from the steering wheel would be very helpful?
Thanks |

On the Amazon 123GT there is a small hole in the back of the wheel boss. This allows you to insert a pin, maybe a small electrical screwdriver, up from the back, and push the horn push out. Maybe it is the same on the 1800?

No small hole in the back of the wheel boss on the P1800S.
Just try to get your fingernails, or take something else that won't damage the aluminium hub or chrome bezel, sticking it in between of them to pull the chrome bezel with the plastic knob in it from the aluminium hub. |

Howard;
On the 1800, insert a sharp, hard, tapered edge (ie putty knife) between the chromed part of the Horn Ring, and Alu hub...apply some gentle taps to drive the wedge-edge into this crease, which will open slightly...while holding this progress open with a flat-blade screwdriver, relocate the tapered edge tool to a location 180Deg opposite and repeat...you should be able to make slow and steady AND UNDAMAGING(!) progress until you can grab the entire assembly by hand and remove it...I believe there is no wire attached...contact to this is made by a spring loaded contact, but you will see that once the assembly is removed. Good Hunting! PS; If not already present, I highly recommend changing the circuit to include a Horn Relay with snubber diode. This is much gentle on the vintage Horn Contact!
