What was your CO2 Emmission result @ last MOT???
My '89 760 Turbo had its MOT on thursday and unfortunately needed some money spent.
2x Front Tyres Wiper blades 4x new calipers (calipers kept seizing) and front steering rods. Now i didn't expect a miracle, and am happy to have the work done - its another phase closer to perfection!!! What i was surprised about (and so was my specialist) was the results of the emmissions test. Here they are: CO % vol - Max limit: 3.500 Actual value: 0.259 HC ppm vol - Max limit: 1200 Actual value: 55 Now rememeber this car doesn't have a CAT!!! I think the reason behind the ultra low reading are due to me using a product called 'Greased Lighting' - which can be bought on the Ideal Home shopping channel. 1 additive for your oil and one for the fuel. It has increased my MPG and made the car smoother and faster! The only other thing i do is change the oil every 3k miles and run it on a min of 98 RON, normally Optimax! What were your results at your last MOT??? I would be interested to know! Jono

MOT Jan 2005 CO 0.08 HC 136ppm MOT Jan 2006 CO 0.05 HC 87ppm My 1985 244 GLE 2.0 MOT May 2005 CO 0.48 HC 93ppm The main factor for these good figures are simple lpgThe 245 GLT has covered 275k and the 240 GLE 320k (kms). Both cars are pre cat! Who said older cars are high polluters. Mike

Hi My 1994 940 2.0 SE Turbo 5 spd with 168k had following results:
CO 0.14% HC 36ppm I agree with Mike Brace re old cars. They are not the polluters people think they are ( provided they are maintained ). Re LPG, in S. Ireland, LPG is £0.53 vs £0.78 Unleaded per litre. The price difference will take longer to recoup, so I have not yet investigated LPG. ivor940 |

Its crazy how the tax we are all paying (£175 a year). Based on the figures provided above - should we not pay less??
And what are you running your V70 on Gary?? Fresh air?? Jono

Any car which is not very, very new is taxed according to its engine size with no regard whatsoever to how it may be maintained. As far as the government is concerned, your car is ASSUMED to be badly maintained to justify the cost of your car tax! Only today, I had the misfortune of following a '53 reg petrol range rover which was burning so much oil the sickening smell lingered for miles. You see so many cars like this, they're knackered but will have as much as 11 months before an MOT and in the meantime are busy chucking out vast quantities of pollutants yet paying bog all in car tax, and the owner doesn't care because - hey - that smell doesn't go where he/she is going and who wants to know what it's like where they've been?! And don't get my started on old diesel buses and taxis.... Pete |
