A bit of a moot point but
When did volvo stop symbolising what most remember volvo for IE strength ,reliability, some might even say agricultural ?
Ive always had pre 2000 volvos but even I have noticed over the years volvo may not stand for what it once did, you read so many problems that people have had with later models and I know that time moves on and so does technology and I know fords input changed things up a little but if you had to draw a line on age from old volvo to new what age model cars would it be ?

I would of said 99 but then I thought blue badged ph1 V70's are basically 850's under the skin and 850's are true volvo so maybe later in the time line ?

It's the old chestnut once again. The more tech that gets packed into these motors, the more issues arise. We want excellent ride and comfort, we want lots of gadgets etc. trouble is, we want cars at an affordable price too. This is where it all goes a bit wobbly. In my view, Volvo is still a quality car and baring a few interesting niggles, is still one of the best motors on the road. The only issues I have with mine is down to neglect from the previous owner.

If you look at the length of time it takes to get a model to market then it would be possible to argue that last "true" Volvo were the P2 platform cars, the S80/S60/XC90 and XC/V70 that were made from 1998 to 2007 (or current with the XC90) as these were designed (and pretty much signed off) before Ford took over Volvo Car.

I'm sure some will say that RWD Volvos are the truest of Volvos; but I like what I'm reading above, and I do believe my 850 is a true Volvo, developed, as it was, from the 1970s until its launch over 10 years later!
