Just to be clear from the beggining i am not representing or advertising any company who is doing that. A proper dpf removal will be like this: Take the dpf out , cut a small section , take all the ceramic out , weld that small section back , reconnect the dpf and remap the ecu. All the dpf sensors should still be connected so in this way the ecu is tricked that dpf is always there and it is always working perfect. None of the MOT testers will be able to check those things and all the emissions will be the same because for a car to fail without dpf they will have to measure de diesel particulate matter and they do not have the equipment for that and they will not have it because is very expensive compared with the normal emissions NOx so all they do is to measure the NOx emissions. Some of the company that are doing dpf's removals will even manufacture a brand new case but empty without ceramic so is it impossible for someone so see anything.
Ok fine - you try that in a court after an accident when engineers scrutinize a car and find that's been done. It not only then makes your insurance void but also ruins that business!!

We know the hard way with my sons car that was in an accident. They tried to apportion the blame and nearly took whole car apart (a JDM Honda) only to find the racing cat on it wasn't!!!! It was empty and therefore deemed a performance enhancement which wasn't declared - previous owner emigrated!!!!!!!. My son lost out totally (£3500) even though when car was bought the work was already done - sadly we couldn't prove it to engineer.

My advice following that - just live with it - it doesn't affect my Saab's economy and performance which is still quicker than a D5 and I only have 150 horses in a 1.9 engine and I still get mid to high 40's

Sorry to doom and gloom but........................

35mpg sounds good to me. About the same as our 53 D5 163bhp auto and much better than our Phase 3 08 XC70 185 manual that struggles to hit 32mpg. Having said that the average is now creeping up since the wife did a speed awareness course a few days ago ...

Up until recently they were claiming DPF removal was legal, despite the fact it clearly went against the spirit of the law.

Now they are saying 'Nobody will know', despite the fact the vehicle will be legally unroadworthy.

About time Trading Standards moved in and closed down the lot of them if you ask me.

Couldn't agree more Bill. If that had happened my son would have been several thousand pounds better off in his pocket! Shame previous owner hadn't said!
