Side Airbags
I was under the impression that 'SIPS' stickers on the window of a car meant that it had side airbags, but I believe this is not the case. Could someone tell me the difference.

I believe the SIPS is incorporated into the actual chassis and doors of the 850 and would have been part of the standard build. Side air bags were added later as an option...my late '95 850 has both driver side and passenger side airbags, and are an addition to SIPS. Maybe a previous owner remover the SIPS sticker? |

RE: SIPS
Hi,
My '92 850 has SIPS, in fact all 850's do. It has been improved on later models by the addition of air bags which the early models didn't have, my GLT doesn't even have a drivers air bag as it was an option. I don't have a sticker in the window but there is a small SIPS sticker on the middle door piller, low down to the left of the front door opening. Si |

RE: SIPS
Where are the sips bags fitted? Are they built into the front seats or into the B post? Just wondered.

RE: SIPS
They're built into the front seats.
If they're fitted there will be warning notices on the seats. |

RE: SIPS
SIPS stands for
"Side impact protection system" and has nothing to do with airbags. As mentioned on this thread earlier it is the build of the car with various crash zones.

RE: SIPS
More precisely, it is two massive shock looking things under the floor of the car, basically giving the car an invisable bumper along each side. This was introduced in the 800 and 900 series in 1992/93.
