850 dash lights
Do all 850s have the engine service warning light, and if so is it supposed to light up when you turn the ignition on? I don't seem to have one, perhaps this is a good thing. It is an 2.5 10V manual from October 1995. Thanks again for any advice.

RE: 850 dash lights
NO its not a good thing, because you wont know if there's a fault needing sorted out. I expect the lamp has failed, to replace it you have to remove the top of the dash and unclip the instrument panel, then replace the dud bulb, seek advice elswhere if you have a passenger airbag fitted. (assemble in reverse order!!) The bulb is a 1.2 watt with a plastic bayonet cap Number 286 WITH A CAP there is a capless version as well. I think that if you have long thin double jointed arms and wrists you may be able to reach up from the footwell but its a bit tricky/virtually impossible!!
The indicator should be in the bottom right window below the ABS and to the right of the Lambda light. Unless the location is different from that on a Tdi. God luck Jim |

RE: 850 dash lights
Hi ya,
You say that you turn the ignition on Do you actually do a bulb check in the number '2' position and is it lit then ? If no then you will have to replace it. Of course if it does works then the ECU doesn't think you need a service yet. Just for your info the service light will illuminate for two minutes if the following criteria is met. 1 calendar year approx. I think it's 10000 hours based on engine revolutions but i maybe wrong on the hours, based on 2 hours a day roughly. 10k to 12k miles. mark

RE: 850 dash lights
My handbook indicates that not all 850s have this light, the previous owner, a friend had the car from 1 yr old, and it has always had volvo service from new. I would have thought Volvo would have commmented if the light should be there. The bulb does not light up on ignition on, it never has the previous owner says. WHat I was wondering if other 850 owners didn't have this light.

RE: 850 dash lights
Hi ya,
It sounds like the bulb is gone if you did the check i mentioned in the previous post with the ignition on. If you are not bothered by it don't worry, otherwise it's a pain taking the dash apart and the instrument panel. And if you are going to do this, you may as well ensure that no others have blown! mark
