V50 Engine Warning Light
Hi any V50 experts out there?
My 2006 V50 1.8 SE Petrol with 115,000 miles has the engine warning light on. I have been doing a lot of slow traffic stop/start driving and occasionally longer motorway speeds. Any clues how to resolve other than taking to the Volvo garage. Thanks Percy |

If it has CEL then I would start with VIDA. Let someone run it for you if you have no access to it.

ETM Fault
My friendly tyre and exhaust shop did a freebie diagnostic and turns out the issue is the electronic throttle control module. The local Volvo garage said it would cost £800. Another independent suggested hundreds of pounds. Looks like not many options here, so will need to get that done.

Thanks for that. There was some noticeable power loss in the lower gears and also at motorway speed when accelerating. Fuel consumption also was higher. The tyre and exhaust folks did clear the light, only for it to come on in a couple of days.

Took the car to Marshall Volvo in Cambridge and they cleaned the throttle housing which was coked-up and that seemed to resolve the power loss. Still have some variable idle RPM, it jumps around when the clutch is depressed on gear change down between 500-1000 RPM when very hot and in traffic. Will have another visit to Marshall. Fortunately is was not the throttle electronics module as that can be £800 for the fix.

I guess on your Volvo visit they would automatically connect it to vida which would show up any readable faults and it appears they found non.
A coked up TB would not necessarily show up. Depending how coked up it was you may well have a coked up inlet manifold too.
