My understanding is that this detachment means that the swirl valves either stay open or closed
If open it doesn’t affect performance but gives poor economy at city speeds (which I guess is what has happened to mine)
There are no error codes

So any experience fixing at an independent? Was this a permanent fix?
I had mine done a couple of weeks ago (and paid a similar price at Volvo).

I'll be honest the car doesn't really feel any different to drive at all but I am noticing the economy starting to creep back up and it's currently at 28.6mpg whereas lately it's been high 27s or low 28s. It was over 30 when I bought it so it's gone down but I'd just put it down to our location in the moors vs a car that came from Manchester way.

They did mention they'd had the battery off for software updates (tbh I've never checked Vida since and can't remember if I kept a record of what was on it when I bought it!) so potentially it needs a bit of time to settle.

Default Lock swirl flaps open?

Hi all, first post, what a great resource this forum provides. My D5 has a broken link rod for the swirl valve, can I secure the arm wide open with a cable tie for open road driving. Rarely see a city street or traffic light! Thankful for any help

There appear to be 2 “official” Volvo kits to fix this one is about £140 and consists of a new rod and a gasket the other is about £480 and includes new injector pipes etc. Presumably the latter kit needs 3-4 hours of labour accounting for the £980 total quote.
Any experience of the cheaper fix? How much was it in total?
Should I just get someone to fix the existing link as has been done in the DIY posts above?

Cheers

Update. My local independent newspaper Sheffield and Meredith have repaired the link for the princely sum of £8. If it works it’s a bargain!
