Default Thule Wing Bars

We have a set of Jag roof bars for our Jag estate, made by Thule who also make the Volvo bars and its the first time using roof bars so i have a question.
With regards to the rubber strip on top, what do you do with it when you are bolting something into the rails? we have a Thule kayak carrier which goes into the rails, and i dont know if we should trim the rubber strip to suit where these will be located, or remove it while in use. What does everyone else do? the instructions show the removal of the rubber strip but if i am leaving the rack on for longer periods i would prefer to have the black strip in. might look at getting some spare strips to repalce when the rack is not on the bars.

dont cut, use them and see if you can cope with the noise.

if not then cut/etc if so then leave them.

If you really want to be fussy then put the carrier and then duck tape over the gap to see if it reduces the noise before you buy spares..

The rubber strips on my Halford bars acts as a gripper strip when things are on the bars. I would cut the strips to accommodate the kyac holder but keep the piece you cut out so that the pieces can be slid together to fill the gap when the kyac attachment is removed, this will also aid in future fitting of the attachment as one piece of rubber can be left in place which will line the attachment up after the first instalation.

WD 40 do a silicon spray that will make sliding the strips out easy. I use it on my Caravan awning rails and have no trouble silding the rubber gutter in and out, all 8m of it.

Paul.

That is exactly what my son did when he had Thule bars on his V50 and fitted a cycle stand.
