Default XC60 Fans not working

Some help needed please. I have a 2014 XC60 D5 which we noticed the aircon wasn't working. Popped it into my local garage for a regas and check but the system was working fine.
Garage diagnosed a faulty fan control module. One obtained on line, still the fans wouldn't work.
Trip to my local diagnostic specialist and tested the systems regarding the cooling fans and concluded 95% certain control module but the one bought online didn't work, despite it quoting the correct part number.

Volvo want £495 for a replacement as it comes with both cooling fans despite the module being only held on by one screw.

I'm a bit reluctant to shell out that amount on the off chance its that which is the problem. So I bought a second hand genuine vovlo part from Volvo breakers and that hasn't cured it.

So my question is has anyone come up against this problem at all? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to sort this out please.
The car isnt usable on anything other than short local journeys in this weather.
Can I add that I have a limited mechanical ability I taught myself bits on original minis and escorts so any help would be brilliant.
many thanks in advance
