Default Emissions probs

Took my 65 plate V60 D2 for the mot today. It failed cause the emissions level was 2.57 and not .70.. The car has only just clocked 16000 miles does about 2500 miles a year. Doesn't smoke white grey or black it just got me baffled. Could this be something to do with the emissions scandle the Jerry cars had not so long ago?

Can I presume you only do short trips from the miles stated? Im no expert, but a good italian tune up down the motorway should blow away all the cobwebs especially before you retest.

Some decent fuel (not from the super market) and a good thrashing down the motorway, not for 5 mins. But to clean the pipes, it sounds as if it’s bunged up.

Italian tune up is the first thing to try... take it on a good run on a quiet country road, use the manual mode of the gearbox and take it almost to the red line in every gear up to 60, at about 2/3 throttle. Do that 4 or 5 times during a long run.

Wife used to have a Kia Ceed which she drove gently, failed on emissions, I did that, and it comfortably passed.

One of the issues is if you are a gentle driver, deposits get stuck in the exhaust and when they rev it hard for the fast acceleration smoke test it dislodges them. Doesn't mean there's anything wrong....
