Default Turbo resonator pipe

Has anyone ever used the silicone replacement pipe as opposed to putting new seals in the original plastic pipe?
What are the pro’s and cons please?

I did on my XC70 D5 a couple of years ago. More or less fit and forget. Only 2 drawbacks I encountered:

1) I ended up buying 2 - the first one was a bit 'flimsy' and there seemed to be more induction/turbo noise - it also started to wear against another bit of the engine. Fitted a more substantial one about six months later which is not only quieter but easier to push the top end on.

2) The location ( at least on my XC D5 auto) is a bit of a PITA because access to the top jubilee clip is limited - 1/4 inch drive sockets with bendy bars made it easier but still required a lot of patience/swear words and making sure the top clip didn't travel too far round as it tightened.

It was about a tenner for the seals as opposed to about 30 quid for the second( more expensive) pipe - but it will probably outlast the life of the car.

One other issue you might encounter is the plastic pipe that runs under the engine and connects to the resonator pipe has a habit of breaking its attachment points - which is what causes the resonator seals to blow in the first place because the pipes are loose - I bodged mine with stong cable ties.

Hope this helps.

Here is the one I bought and fit a year and a bit ago. You have less room to fit this on an auto.

I fitted the same several years back, no issues. Like John, the lowest pipe mount was also fractured on mine.
