Possible turbo issue
Hi
Im hoping to have some advice on a problem I am having with my XC90 2009 D5. Swirl pot arm connector often fell off. Sometimes this would send car into limp mode but mostly was ok. Garage often tried to remake ball joint but rarely lasted. Around a year ago the car started hesitating when under power (up hills or full power on flat road). There was a sound like a flutter coming from the engine bay at the same time. Over a few weeks it developed into a woosh sound and lack of power. Leaking turbo pipe was found a replaced, and problem seemed to go. A short time later hesitation returned, sometimes putting car into limp mode. Often a spinning-down sound could be heard from engine bay on gear change. A different garage suggested it was swirl pots disconnected to actuator, causing turbo pressure to come back when swirl pots snapped shut on gear change. I drilled and fitted metal bolt to arm (eBay kit) and reconnected swirl pop control actuator. Problem seemed to go but after about 40 minutes driving hesitation would happen again when under load. This evening the hesitation was different and extreme and lack of power, with the sound of something skidding, from about 2k revs, and power cutting. I had to crawl up hills in 1st/2nd to get home and keep revs low. When I pulled over I noticed the left side of the engine bay and wing was a lot hotter than normal. Short YouTube clip. You can hear the sound, which stops when I back off accelerator of change gear https://youtube.com/shorts/Hiu2tJWloI0?feature=share My guess is its turbo related, but Ive found local garages to be quite unsure about all the above so Id be grateful if to hear from anyone who this makes sense to. I know the turbo actuator was looked at previously but as it was moving it was thought to be operating ok. Grateful for any advice. Obviously Im not driving it anywhere at this point. |
