Which engine?

Hi all.

Looking at potentially buying a Volvo XC40 or XC60 for a budget of up to £20k, which just about gets me into a current gen version of the latter.

There are quite a few engine choices and I really don't know what would be sensible.

We do 10k miles a year, much of it local with regular medium-length road trips and the odd long-distance travel.

Has to be an automatic and I read that the newer 8-speed box is decent.

XC40 seems to have a bit of a variable rep when it comes to reliability, but other than that it seems a good fit for us with just about enough space.

I've always liked the XC60 and am tempted by the 2015-2017 (?) D4 auto as a slightly cheaper option. If the new version, then probably the T6 or T8 but right at the top of budget.

Are the hybrid petrol engines any good in either XC40 or XC60 guise? Are they reliable?

Any opinions gratefully received!
