B230A. What hose?

Hello, one of the rubber hoses on my 86 240 has perished and I wondered what it did?! I have managed to shorten it for the time being.
It is one of the two hoses that go from the air intake rounded black plastic bit, to the solenoid? mounted on the bulkhead, then one hose heads off to under the car adjacent to the fuel line.

I had a similar contraption on the Barge:

… we never did work out what it was for. I removed the whole thing (I seem to recall one of the wires was a live) and there were no adverse effects. I’d suggest you either ignore it or remove it.

I've worked out it is to do with warm starting! The Haynes says it will impact efficiency if the length of the hoses is altered! Not sure it can get any worse economy wise.
