Alarm malfunction -maintenance required

Hi all,

Volvo s60 2014 D4 181hp business edition

Quick question on this error code:

I noticed my stop/start was not working just before this error code appeared, does anyone know from which battery the alarm backup batteries inside the alarm sensor diode charge from?

I presume if I charge the main battery, it will charge the support battery and in turn the alarm system (if working ok)?

Or am I just going to have to replace the alarm siren unit?

The alarm batteries are a couple of AAA NiMH batteries of the type you find in a cordless phone. The main car batteries would have to be virtually completely dead for them not to provide any charge.

The alarm batteries tend to fail/corrode after 6 years or so, see the other thread on here for fixing suggestions.

Just an update on this, replaced the batteries in the unit and temporarily the error disappeared the next day, but the error came back along with flashing indicators and the alarm going off sporadically. I cleaned the board today, looks okish, the error seemed to clear but it's back again.

I might have to replace the unit. The code is 6g9n-19g229-bk

I found a mazda unit 6g9n-19g229-DF, does anyone know if the last 2 letters are significant? It looks identical.

Are they plug and play?

I replaced my -bk with a Mazda -cg and it worked fine.

Just plug and play but had to wait until the next day for the message to disappear. The siren was around £10 from eBay so we'll worth a try.

alarm internal battery is dead, best way to fix is search for one off a rangerover on ebay you can get them for about £15. the small battery is for your start stop sounds like yours has failed, ps alarm is located in nsf wheel arch its a easy job

It's often not as simple as it just being the siren batteries that have failed; on the V60/ S60, the alarm units "live" in an extremely aggressive, high humidity environment. An invariably sopping wet, saturated foam piece fitted above the siren ensures that. Replacing batteries alone is often not a cure. Internal corrosion of the electronic circuitry is often also present.

Mazda wisely did not fit these identical sirens in such an environment: as a consequence they and their brackets show no corrosion, internally or externally. After fitting one to my car, overnight the alarm message disappeared.
