Oh, not again. This time I noticed that the n/s mirror glass on my '90 745 was starting to flap around in the mirror frame as I drove along. Fortunately, I was able to stop and recover the mirror intact but, now separated from its plastic backing plate.

This mirror has never been replaced so I guess that 35 years is good for the original adhesive but, the quality of sticky stuff has improved greatly over that time!

Having experienced this little niggle some years ago with the o/s mirror detaching from the plastic backing plate I was fortunate to recover that mirror glass unbroken from the ground. I re-attached it using superglue but, unfortunately a couple or so years later it got side-swipped and I had to replace the whole miror door fitting.

As it's impossible to buy replacement mirrors with the 'old style' fitting I propose to re-attach the glass to the backing plate with superglue but, I was just wondering whether anyone who has experienced this problem has any recommendation for a better adhesive bearing in mind it's a heated mirror.

Bob

VHB double sided tape (very high bond) would be better than super glue- probably too permanent:~
The limited heat time shouldn't affect the product here.
Polyurethane sealant & adhesive is also good but unless you have a use for the rest of the tube it would be a waste.

I've had 10 year-old mirrors fall off, I think the heat kills the sticky eventually.
