Hi many thanks for the feedback. That's reassuring. I tried a local Volvo dealer and was told that they couldn't help! So your experience was very helpful indeed. As an interim measure I bought a tile tracker for the key as I'm being very paranoid about losing it.

Hi, thanks for your advice. I'm going to give it a go. The local Volvo dealer here was a bit clueless to be honest so it's great to know that it can be done.
As I'm paranoid about losing the key I've put a tile tracker on it just for now. Thanks again Cheers Patrick |

If it helps the dealership that did it was Parkside Volvo Orpington in South East London. I believe they have since moved to Sidcup Road but are still an HSF Volvo dealership.
They were not confident and told me that they would still charge me even if it didn't work. Given I was already there I went ahead anyway. On my invoice it says: Part number: 30786294 Description: MASTER KEY APPLICATION |
