I got an "Engine system Setvice urgent" (see attached photo)appear for around 40 miles of driving, then it's turned off. I have now done another 50 miles and have had no loss of power and no other noticeable changes in performance. Has anyone seen this before or know what I should do please? I could obviously take it to the garage but am adverse to spending lots of money if there's nothing wrong. Any advice would be great please.

Thank you for the advice with this. A diagnostic and now check of the car has found an issue with the manifold, including carbon build up. The car now requires a new manifold with an actuator plus mass air flow sensor. Having read through a few previous posts this seems to be a common problem with diesel Volvos. On top of this I see Volvo recalled their V60 (and others) due to the risk of engine fire. Is there a way of checking if this happened with my car. Its a 2016 plate and I bought it in 2020, which I think is after the recall date. Also, has anyone had success in getting Volvo to contribute to the cost of this. £700 for a manifold is incredibly expensive.

You can check if your car is due for any recall on the mot history page on the .gov website. You could also contact your local dealer. I would not be surprised if volvo offer you no help with this even tho it no fault of your own that these engines get so clogged with there own gunk. It is also now an 8yr old car but if you have a full Volvo history you may get lucky but I dought it.
Unfortunately the cost of the parts are not cheap. I see your location is York, Drydals garage now have a volvo master tech moved from chapmans and there is also Hutton bros at shipton. Both good Volvo specialists incase you wernt already aware.

Thank you again, this is really helpful. I've got a good local mechanic who has quoted a price that is similar to what I would expect and will go ahead with the work as the car will have little resale value otherwise, its just a case of running it for afew more years now. One last piece of advice please - who should I contact at Volvo please? Is it just Volvo Support UK? The car has not been recalled for problems in the past according to the MOT records so I feel I can make this as a point of failure on their part.
