V50 air con problem.
Hope someone can help.
I have a 2011/12 V50 D3 SE. Air con packed up 6 months ago. Had a new compressor, new hi pressure sensor and new gas. (No leak) A/C on off button goes from green to orange OK. No fault codes shown. Relay and all fuses good in both fuse boxes. 12v getting to relay. But I think it must be earth switched because when I short low side of relay to earth the a/c kicks in and I get cold air. Basically garage has given up and the last diagnostics I have done myself. Now I am stuck. Where does the low side of the relay go to? I don't have any circuits. I've had this V50 from new. It's perfect condition and done over 200k miles. This believe it or not is the only fault I've ever had with it. (Apart from the windscreen wiper link arm) Any suggestions greatly appreciated. |

Hi
I think in Vida there is a function to activate the aircon, not sure if that can help. Will check with my Vida later. If the function is there it might be able to prove the signal to the compressor and or clutch at least. Vida also measures the aircon temperatures but not sure if it will check the pressure/ switch?? If I get time later will have a look.

Thanks.
A new pressure switch was fitted with no joy. At the moment I have the AC running because I have the low side of the relay shorted to earth. But of course it's not controlled or regulated. It's just always on as if set to low. The system must be switched to earth I suppose. |

Hi
Just had a look and the only things I can find is a function to switch on/off the AC relay and also to monitor Evap temperature. Couldn't find anything else but there might be other fault finding tests??

P.S. If you need more technical info about the system put "S40MY2005-Climate Control" into google and go for the Volvo technical document on the VOC site. Last edited by rkeegan; Jun 20th, 2024 at 21:08. Reason: Extra Info |

Hi.
Interesting you had the same problem. I at first changed the sensor but fitted a pattern part. It still didn't work. I was then told not to use a pattern part so i fitted a new Volvo part. (Only 20 pounds more) But this still does not work. So far i am at a loss and am driving with it linked out as previously mentioned. Unlikely 2 sensors are no good. I am now thinking the A/C module. Where is it located? Just as an extra annoyance, only today the internal flaps for the vents do not seem to be working. The fan is but no air is coming out of any vent. Floor, sides or screen. This is why i am beginning to think the A/C module is failing. I am in a 'now what?' situation. I may try your tip on linking out the sensor. Just for fun.... |

Hello, I have a 2011 V50 D3 with the same problem. Garage said it was the compressor, this has been changed - no luck. Low pressure sensor change - no luck. gas is new and full. The car just blows warm air.
Someone spoke about an outside air temperature sensor and a bad connection in the A post but I'm struggling to find details. |

My 58 plate S40 came back from the garage with the air-con supposedly fixed for a very small bill. It seemed alright until I was driving to Surrey yesterday and no matter what setting I put it at, the car just refused to cool down. The air wasn't hot though, it was just exactly the same as what was outside, so at least it didn't get warmer!
I also noticed that there seemed to be no air flow to the driver's legs, even with all the other directions switched off. Not sure how they could be related though. |

Anyone with an outside air sensor reading past -5 (From my experience) Then the AC will never kick in. For a UK car (RHD) you're looking at the passenger door for this.
In my experience, I took the door card off and fiddled with the connection going to the module, the connection that leads to the mirror electronics. |
