Default Refurbishment of diamond cut alloys (London)

This is a recommendation for a company refurbishing alloy wheels that is based on an industrial estate in Wembley, north west London.

I had four badly trashed wheels and was quoted £399 for a set of 18-in alloys, no doubt it would be a bit more for XC90-sized 20-22-in wheels. Obviously any structural damage or cracks would involve more work.

I drove in, they took off my wheels, installed loaner wheels and I then drove away, being told to come back in three days.

In the meantime they dismounted the tyres, valves and sensors, and acid stripped the old paint. This gave a clean surface and the opportunity to fill in any defects found on the face of the wheel. The filling is done using welding techniques aimed at providing a surface as strong as the actual wheel.

Following that process, any minor defects were sanded down. The wheels were powder coated in a multi-step process—firstly the primer followed by the actual colour (I chose a metallic grey that matched the vehicle paintwork), the alloys are then recut, then the lacquer applied with a choice of clear, satin or matt.

Once out of the oven, the valves, sensors and tyres are remounted and the wheels balanced. I returned after the three days and was delighted with the result, hence this is a strong recommendation for what is a family business.

Give it 6 months before they start to deteriorate

The first four photos show that the alloys were badly (but not structurally) damaged.

I hadn't realised in the fifth photo I hadn't washed the wheel, the sixth photo is clean but not so close up. Very happy with the result.
