This is where I was. I did similar to what you did. I have had no issues since I did this. The tag should I suspect be earthed but in my case was faulty connected hence the intermitant "hatch open" message and light when going over rough surfaces. Cheers Bob |

Along these lines, I never get a tailgate open warning and the rear courtesy light doesn't come on,(bulb is fine).
Am I safe in assuming that the latch needs replacing? |

I'd suspect either the wire to the tailgate open signal has been shorted to earth either deliberately or accidentally, I'd be inclined to trace the wiring and find the cause before buying parts.

Agree with Chris check the wiring back first - remember the wires change colour between the locking mechanism and the D pillar. If its the micro switch and you are handy i'd attempt to get a micro switch from Maplins and adapt it. Cheers Bob |

hi there,
Just a quick contribution, mine (2004 v70) showed same message, I gave the module a twiddle and the message disappeared ! had the module grounded to the license plate ground wire and everything's back in order... thanks.... |

Hi John, I just belatedly spotted your post. I have the same issue. Was your fix successful?
Cheers. |

Just wanted to say thankyou. I've been suffering the open tailgate warning. Bridging the connections in broker window heater did the trick!
