Handheld OBD car de reader recommendations
Hi All,
Google is not my friend and searching this forum hasn't helped... Anyone had good experience with a obd code reader (one with P3 Volvo specific features)? I'm a long way from a dealer or a specialist. I know "vida/dice" is the best solution but, I'm looking for something handy I can leave in the car. Something that can do a bit more than a cheap elm327 obd reader and a free app on phone. I'm hoping to do P3 Volvo specific things like EPB, TPS, oil change, battery reset etc.and etc. I have my eye on an "Autophix 7110" or an "Ancel VOD700". Both around £90 on EvilBay.' I've had good results in this price range with code reader with BMW specific functions.... Thanks in advance Mark 2008 XC70 D5 manual LHD Also have a C70.... |

The Topdon Topscan is a very good reader. It s a dongle that plugs into the OBD socket and you read the codes from your phone. There are two flavours. The £50 or £100 one. The more you pay, the more you can do like code injectors etc. I have the £50 one and found it extremely handy.

I know you specifically mentioned a hand held reader but you should consider a VIDA/DiCE clone which would not set you back much more than £100 including an ancient Win.7 laptop upon which to run it. All the hand held readers are generic and provide limited information. VIDA is Volvo specific and will deal with every one of the car's electrical systems and provide advised repair procedures and list spare parts. I've had hand held readers and they are sitting in a drawer unused while my VIDA/DiCE and ThinkPad are regularly used whether on not I'm going to do the work myself or not.

I have the iCarSoft V2 for Volvo/Saab and it works very well on my 2008 (MY 2009) V70 2.4D SE Lux. I would recommend it, I got mine 2nd hand from eBay for about £80.
This looks like the official UK distributor. |
