Default S40 99 lights problem

Hi folks this is a problem with my wifes car, when she got the car the lights could all be turned off but the dash lights were perminantly on, this we can cope with, then an intermitent fautl developed the side lights would not come on for a while after they were turned on, we had a new switch fitted and all seemed well for a while ( dash lights still on all the time ) the fault came back and the garage said it was a faulty switch, we told them we thought it was more than just the switch but they changed the switch, its happened again,

we think it might have had some sort of a botched mod, has anyone got any ideas on this

It could be that someone has tried to turn off the DRLs - you have to cut a wire to do this on these early models.

Perhaps they got a bit over-enthusuiastic with the cutting?

But if the car that you have is a year 1999 model, the dash lights are on all the time. That is how it left the factory.

Correct.

The intermittent sidelights could be the result of a botched job to switch off the DRLs.
