Default ODB-II Error codes XC90

Hi to everybody,

I own since 2002 a XC90 2,922cc 272bhp (200kW) 6-cylinder twin-turbo petrol mit D5 Geartronic. Since a few weeks an orange engine sign shows up. I connected my U480 OBD Scanner and the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are retrieved:

FAULT: 04
PEND: 04

P2178 01/08

Can anyone help me to interpret the code P2178 01/08 ????

I even erased the code after maybe 2-3 days the same code shows up, While driving I do not have the feeling there is something wrong with the car.

Any help appreciated!!!

Kind regards from Switzerland,
Karl

It looks like you have a fuel problem. It could be anything including faulty lambda sensor, air leaks, faulty injectors, spark plugs or spark plug coils.
I would start with new spark plugs, and a new air filter. I would also put some injector cleaner in your fuel (I like the Wynns injector cleaner). Another quick check could be to take the inlet pipes off the turbo's and check for play in the bearings.

If none of these relatively cheap things help, and there are no obvious air leaks, then its time to think at the next level.

Regards,

Rob.

Info from http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/517875

P2178
System Too Rich Off Idle, Bank 1

Rob's suggestions are all valid, but with a 2002 model, I would also add possible wear in the fuel injectors... How many km has the car covered since new?
