Lift the bonnet and look down near the radiator, should be easily visible.

Yep, it was my turn today...and I have previously checked the clip!!! If your clip is in ANY way rusted....CHANGE IT! I was lucky, the rad fan revving it's head off gave it away after I pulled up after a short journey and water underneath the car, busted clip! Phew!

Did my upper and lower clips this week. Mine's a 2003 and they were surprisingly rusty! Neither would come off by loosening. I ended up using a dremel to cut both off being careful not to knick the rubber. I also noticed that the larger clamp holding the "pressure pipe (30617118)" in the middle of the bottom of the rad was just as rusted. That one is larger. Figured I'd replace that one while I had the engine under-mount cowl off. Speaking of which, I had a devil of a time getting that darned cowl off as the plastic fasteners would not come apart for me. Had to pick up four new ones at the dealership as a wrecked mine. May want to order a few before you take the cowl off. The part # is 30820141 and I needed 4.

And many thanks from another member. I recently bought a V40 1.8, year 2000. I replaced the hose clips on the top hose with non-Volvo parts, as they are really easy to get at. There was only very slight rust on the screw. Then had a neck-aching half day removing the engine undershield, and found the bottom hose clip screw was rusted solid. I used the faithful junior hacksaw with a new 'eclipse' blade to cut through the clip, with no damage to the hose. Then waxoyled one of the genuine Volvo clips, and fitted it really easily. I would have bought new ones, but when I went to our local Volvo 'dealer' I was told they now had no parts or service facility. I didn't want to drive 30 miles round trip for a hose clip.
I am glad I joined this forum! Last edited by RobertP; Sep 7th, 2014 at 15:48. Reason: spelling |
