Did you check the numbers on the side of the replacement DIM to be exactly the ones on your original one? The original one, did it ever worked properly since you own the car?

I'm going to sending back the reconditioned DIM as it's caused more issues with the car then my orginal one. Ivery only had car 2 weeks never seen the DIM work why I got the car so cheap I thought it would be simple case of getting the DIM reconditioned and problem fixed as that seemed to be the common fault with these cars.

Of all the failing DIM symptoms, I haven't heard of yours before so wouldn't have assumed it was a DIM fault.
Out of interest, where did you get the replacement?

The replacement DIM was from Volvodiagnostic.com and new unit provided is more hassle then the old on and now they wont refund the cost of it. Going to try have a look at the CEM over the weekend as cant think where else the fault will be.

Bottom line is, if the replacement DIM wasn't coded to your car, then it 99.9% will not work.

Send your old DIM away and have that fixed.

The new DIM had been coded to my car so it would work provided them with car details and VIN so they could have it programmed.

Hmmm... strange.

It still looks like a DIM fault but I can see why you're questioning the CEM.

Its just confusing with it all the car due to have fault codes read on the 9th Feb hopefully that give me more answers. Just annoying not having a working DIM while driving having to use portable sat nav for my MPH.

I have same problem albeit intermittent. I sent my DIM off to Volvo Diagnostics and they sent it back and refunded me because there was no fault found with it. They guy did suggest it could be the CEM but iv haven't investigated any further.

Another thing I've noticed on mine is that the boot switch/button will fail to work then when I start the car the clocks are dead. Once the clocks start working the boot switch will work too. Also, sometimes when I open and close the drivers door with the engine off the needles on the dials will twitch about. Not sure if these are related to the problem or not

When the clocks do fail I get the engine light and nothing else while the key is in position 2.

I'll look forward too seeing whether the CEM cleaning works for you as I might have to bite the bullet and do it myself.

I keep you posted how it goes Rob hopefully it is just the case of clean. Ive not had any other electrical faults on the car like your having there but that sounds like a CEM controlling the electronics.
