Hello

If it is/was the windscreen, front carpets will also be wet. Be sure to feel underneath as the foam is so thick it disguises the fact...and if you had the car parked nose up during a downpour any water entering would run to the rear. My friends XC70 of 2009 vintage had a leaking windscreen but it was not detached from the seal, so no visible movement.
It's not too difficult to pry got back the carpet in the footwells in the front then get an apprentice to spray the windscreen to body join with a hose pipe whilst you watch for water ingress inside.

...but there are other areas.

The tailgate. Some owners experience water entering via the tailgate from sitting water in the hinge wells. There was an extra stick on seal strip that goes between the hinges, obtainable from the dealer or you can manufacture your own.

Roof aerial. Have you got the shark fin aerial? it's not unknown for the seal under this to leak.

That said, for the latter two you would expect the headlining to show water marks and some report water in the interior light.

Good luck with it.

If you do remove the carpets to dry them, it’s an ideal time to find the source of the leak.

Hi

Thanks for that info 37 RUBY & TEAMG much appreciated sounds like windscreen is the favourite
Don't think it's the latter 2 but when it goes in next monday i'll mention them see what the machanic say's

I saw something on youtube about putting shaving foam on the outside of the windscreen perimeter then with an air line inside blowing upwards on the screen & you could see the foam move away where the gaps were not tried this as I've no air line

Cheers people

Does your car have a sun roof ? that can also get blocked drains then it overflows into the car . Guess how I know ? If you do have a sunroof the drains if they are blocked can be cleared with a thin plastic tubing pushed down the drain then use a syringe to suck and blow down the tube until the blockage clears. When clear the water runs out of the bottom of the front wing . There are also rear drains fitted that drain out under the front of the rear wheel arches . I used old news papers to soak up most of the water. Its amazing how much they will soak up . Just Lift up carpet lay down the news papers and push carpet back down on them . they will need changing every day for a week or so but you can still drive the car with them in place .
Hope you get it sorted . nothing worse than a wet interior .

Hi Model Flyer

There is no sunroof on my car, but thanks for the info what i have done is dried the carpet out with my carpet shampooer, put the hose on it & sucked quite alot of water out they are dry to the touch ran the aircon on the floor for a while & they're basically dry now.
So i asked my wife to spray the car with the hose pipe & nothing coming in anywhere. The only other thing was i noticed the passenger front door seal wasn't fitted proper i sorted this & hopefully that's cured it
Try it for a while & see what happens

Thanks again to everyone for your help

Default Jumping on this question, sorry!

Hi,
Sorry to piggyback this question but it is as close as I think I will get without long searching.

I've been out in my nippers 57 plate V70 today to dry out the footwells. Main dealer says its delaminating windscreen causing it but wanted £170 per hour to sort water.

I've got the front carpet 'buckets' out with a bit of trim removal, seat loosening and swearing inwardly BUT the water has travelled from front to rear and that's where I've got stuck.

The passenger front seat is now out, the central console loose/partially out but the carpet looks one piece left to right.

Any tips to help me get it out as there is quite a puddle under there!

Thanks and sorry again

Smile wet carpets

Hi fellow volvo owners, just an update on the wet carpets it is the windscreen leaking my mechanic was also puzzled as he could see nothing coming in at all so he removed the nearside A pillar & sure enough there was water trickling in it was coming in from the top left (nearside) of the screen.
Just glad it's sorted i.m having it took out & resealed was thinking of going down the replacement windscreen through my insurance but a reseal is only £75 +vat so having that done

Just thought i'd mention there is a recall on the V70 for the drivers seat belt it flashed up on my mechanics system booked in for next week

Thanks for all your info

Thought it would be the windscreen that was the problem at least you know it is definitely that now 👍👍
