It was the 'slap' from the rubber reversing on standard Volvo items. Cured by fitting Bosch.
I had the 'slap' from the rubber reversing, wiped the blade with WD40 and that sorted it. Have to re apply every so often.

Could try video the wipers on your phone and transfere to pc then use VLC video player (its free) and slow down the playback to see if its hitting or not. you can get vlc on android also but I personally find it easier on pc.

Same on my V60. I put my old Bosch wipers back on after swapping for new Volvo ones. (They didn't look worn and it stopped the thwack)

its definitely hitting the pillar

I WISH I could put Bosch wipers on but they dont seem to do them for the later XC60 (2022/2023 model) with the series of holes in for the washer jets

I had to reset the position of mine after a windscreen replacement.
It took a few attempts before I got it perfect. One thing to note is that the wipers go to a slightly lower 'park position' after a period of inactivity. This caught me out initially. Also the wipers will overrun slightly on a wet windscreen due to less friction.
Some cars have markings on the windscreen to set the position of the wipers, however my new windscreen doesn't have these.

This is proper positioning of wipers for LHD cars, taken from recall TJ about loose wipers nuts.

My new V60 makes the slapping noise. It's the blades on mine, they're not hitting anything.

The old car did the same until I stopped buying Volvo blades and used cut to size eBay specials instead.

Had same in my MY19 XC60.

Adjusted twice by dealer, finally fixed as there was a recall related to this

Any idea what the recall involved?
I am suspecting the position is somehow encoded and the travel is controlled by CPU.....everything else seems to be nowadays
