Thanks Boatie,
Can someone show me where is the sensor placed exactly ? I thought it was in the windscreen near the radar and camera which can not be covered by something in the dashboard. Best regards |

Presently it is dark outside so the panel lights, centre screen etc were in night mode. I shone a torch directly on the sensor and after about 10 seconds the panel lights brightened proving that the sensor is, at least on a V90, where I described. Just clear the entire top of your dash and see what happens. Frank |

Mine is a 2016 XC90.
As I drove up the M18 this morning, the sun was starting to rise. The car switched to daytime mode and the dials went bright. I took off my hat and put it on the dash over the sensor. The dials almost immediately dimmed and the car switched back to night mode. As I originally thought, this is 100% the ambient light sensor.

Yes it is this bump at the front middle of the dash top. Yes it also flashes for the alarm.

Hello member,
Thank you very much, the problem is fixed when I remove something I have put to protect the dashboard, i was not aware that the sensor is withing the alarm sensor Red light, just remove the tapis, and all is working as expected. My apology for the disturb. Much appreciate your intervention & time. Bouchaib ![]() |

This thread is what I think is one of the great things about this forum.
Bouchaib had a problem, with what turns out to be a Really simple solution, that Philip (and Boatie and Snoodini) were able to provide. It required a little knowledge of the car, that wouldn't have been available to Bouchaib, without an inconvenient (and possibly expensive) trip to the dealer, and even then I half suspect that the dealer would have plugged it in to the computer and told him that there was no fault code showing. There's obviously people with knowledge of more complicated problems on here, but this just seemed like a really elegant, yet simple example. Last edited by Rocinante; Oct 9th, 2020 at 15:40. |
