Unlikely to be the source of your problem but also worth checking the top torque mount, large bush, and the small bush on the lower torque mount.

Check the autobox fluid level correctly, this is with the engine running after moving the selector lever through all positions pausing for a couple of second sin each position before returning to PARK. Leave the engine running while checking the fluid level, best done after a 20 to 30 mile drive using the side of the dipstick marked HOT.

If it needs fluid only use JWS3309 spec fluid and remember from the min to max marks on the dipstick only requires 200ML so don't add loads in one go. New fluid is introduced down the dipstick tube, this is the only filler port on the box.

If you want to drain the autobox sump you need a 24MM socket and a container to catch the approx. 3,5L of old fluid that will pour out.

If after changing the fluid and resetting the adaptive using Dice/ Vida software (or a trip to the main dealer) it is still flaring between shifts look up "B4 Servo Cover" or even the possibility of pulling the solenoids to clean them out or simpler is to replace them.

Does the coolant in the expansion tank look to contain oil? if so fluid is cross contaminating within the main radiator, oil from the autobox will be forced out of it's cooler in to the engine coolant when the engine is running but engine coolant can contaminate the autobox when you shut the engine down hot if the autobox cooler pipes become porous within the radiator, coolant in the autobox can spell disaster so it is worth checking the coolant - Mike

I have now done a number of sump dumps and at present seems to have smoothed out the jumping when stopping, also gear change from neutral to first is now smooth. I am going to use it for a few months then do another and then every six months, hopefully this will keep it changing smoothly. I will post if anything changes so may be worth going through the process of changing oil a few times before any software changes.

Red face 2006 s60 Auto.... hiccup....

Please do advise....
Car drives absolutely smooth. Had to take quick trip to vet and on slow down to turn suddenly it was like she had a hiccup gearing down. Third time this has happened. Now I want to do sumpdump of gearbox as it makes sense to change the oil at intervals as the gearbox works as hard as the engine. Problem though this one doesnt have a dipstick to even check the levels. My mechanic says there is no plug next to drain plug to check as apparently that is how it has to be done. I may not get in under my car anymore so have to rely on others information.
How do I do a sumpdump on her and how do I ensure the levels are correct. Only just bought her so I need to ensure everything is 100%.

there are different types of gear box with different ways of checking levels take a good look for the dipstick under some hoses its yellow to help you find it if you dont have it your gearbox is the latter type

To Amanda71: Congrats on your recent S60 purchase.
1) How many miles were on it when you got it?

2) If you no longer 'wrench', I suggest asking around for a honest mechanic would be time well spent.

3) While there are several acceptable fluids for these units, I've noticed that using real Volvo ATF or Aisin T-IV fluid resulted in softer/smoother shifts.
I've refreshed enough trannie fluid to feel confident in my assessment.
