That is bad news and can appreciate you not wanting to get your hopes up again only to be let down by your bank. I had a similar (poor) experience with my bank last year when I was looking for favourable terms on a savings product only to be told they did not apply to existing customers, only new customers. I ditched the bank after 30 years of loyal custom - their loss.
I suspect you will not be alone in these circumstances. Banks and finance houses seem to be able to pull the plug at the drop of a hat these days. If you can get a better or top up deal then sure there will be another XC60 floating round you could swoop and purchase quickly.
