I also spent ages yesterday trawling the net looking for an alternative UK supplier... with no success. Does anybody know how much one would cost if I persuaded my friendly local indy to source one through 'official' channels? I haven't asked him as I do not want to spoil the good relationship that we have!

I jsut pulled a load off from those at my breakers. Took ten seconds each. Fired some WD40 into them, they were also stiff, but banged the best on. All done in 2mins and £10. The other two went to stock until next time. Why faff?

WD40 dries leaving a sticky residue which attracts dust and will jam up again, GT85 is a better choise as it coats in PTFE and doesnt dry sticky - Mike

Hi folks; My 2003 V40 2.0 SE Auto is suffering from the sticking gear-lever button problem. The button has cracked and it sticks because it's 'pitching' on the pivot pin...
From the Volvo parts drawings, only the complete knob is available as a spare. Looking on t'interweb, the button can be bought for the some models, but I've never seen the V40 listed... Can anyone advise if any of the available buttons also fit the V40..? Cheers Jeff

Really comprehensive post thanks.
I was stressing about having to do this on my car but a really good spray of WD40 seems to have improved things greatly. Probably won't last though! |

Auto switch replacement
Hi
Brilliant article....thanks...but it still doesn't look that simple ! I think you could make a bit of money changing these for 'customers' ! I have several so took one to bits...well it fell apart....and very fiddly. ..don't think I'd be confident to change the switch though ! I'm old fashioned so I prefer the "wood look"...and persevere with several sticking switches...even though I have a mint non wood selector. Great article though...thanks. Dave
