I’ve been told that the charging of a standard battery is different to an AGM battery.

So my outcome was that I returned my first battery and ordered an AGM replacement. The seller halved the courier charge for the return. Overall I roughly broke even if I compare to Halfords off the shelf price.
The retaining bolt is usually the fiddliest bit on any battery change. On an XC60 there is more space to work than on other cars I've done and the bolt is connected to the plate so it can't fall and get lost. The battery bay is also self-contained so, again, no potential for bolt falling down inside the engine compartment. There was still a gotcha though - the bolt just refused to take to the nut. I took the battery back out and tried the nut and bolt together - they were fine, no stripped threads. When I tried again with the battery in situ the same problem happened again. I finally realised that there was a safety pamphlet glued to the nearside of the battery and the thickness of 4 sheets of folded paper was enough to stop the bolt and nut from lining up. Once that was removed, the bolt tightened up fine. Just a cautionary tale for anyone else reading this! |

"The higher the current take-off in the car, the more the alternator must be working and the batteries charging = Increased fuel consumption." |
