I'd like to read more about this as I am planning to run winter tyres all year. I can't find any information though, do you have any links?

I will ask the R&D guys on Monday about the winter performance, I know the all season perform well in both cold and warm.

How about using them in summer? You can also use winter tyres in summer time. If you could only choose one set of tyres for use throughout the year in the UK, winter ones would be the preferred choice. |

Fitted a set of winter tyres to the V70 just the other day there, first time I have ever had a set on any car. Plan on keeping them on all year. I must say that I am astonished at the improvement they have made to the ride comfort. I thought at first it was the suspension that was causing the harshness, so I changed the front springs, drop links, wishbone bushes etc, but it made little difference. Set of snow tyres fitted and it is as smooth as silk! Best of it is, they are cheap Chinese ones (£73 the pair), and I fitted them myself. |

Had a word with the R&D dept as to driving winter tyres in the summer. He says the average driver would not know the difference and because the tread compound is softer they would wear a bit quicker.

Don't necessarily agree they are softer though. Isn't the point that their compounds stay pliable at low temperatures rather than being softer per se? |

The softer compound is for the low temperatures, in the summer the tyres would degrade quicker as the compound is softer than those for summer conditions.

I have Pirelli Scorpion Verde 235 /50/R18 97V all season tyres on my MY13 XC70 and they are fine and are wearing very well. The ride is pretty comfortable and grip appears to be fine for the way I drive. I am no racing driver mind but then again not a snail either.

I had a set of new Volvo dealer fitted Pirelli Scorpions on my 06 XC70 when I bought it maybe 2.5 years ago. I then had three un-repairable punctures on the back ones in the first year. After the most recent one (on a virtually new tyre) I found it difficult to find a matching spec Pirelli tyre anywhere. So I replaced the rear pair with Michelins.
Not saying the punctures were anything to do with the Pirelli's but in that year I had more punctures than over the entire 25 previous years that I've been driving. |
