Had a good day working on the 240 today.
As I started working on the car early this morning I started off doing a bit of the body work, treated the rust then a thin coat of filler, once that had set it was sanded down and primed. Now on to the main job, changing the front springs. It was a bit of a wriggle to get the first spring out but the second one was easier. While the suspension was out of the way the wheel arches was cleaned and undersealed. The -40mm springs only lowered the car by 20mm but they have firmed up the suspension. Before. After. Just need to do the rears next weekend.

I hope you've got at least some new tyres lined up. That Semperit certainly won't impress your MOT man! I don't even think I'd risk getting it to the garage. Cracking job on the lowering though, pity the tyres are too...........

I`m replacing the wheels and tyres
If you saw those tyres in the flesh you`d be surprised that they are holding air

Todays job was to cut the rotten drivers side boot well. It was worse than the passengers side as the rot had gone up the wing. So it was all cut out and replaced.
Went to call it a day and shut the bonnet and the N/S bonnet hinge snapped, I`ve put some feelers out to see if anyone has one if not I`ll try welding it tommorrow.

The rims for the front have a offset of 44mm and will not fit unless I fit spacers and I`m dead against wheel spacers. So the centre of the wheel was removed and then re-fitted back in but giving me a offset of 24mm. Once the centre was back in the wheel was spun up and dialed in so the run out was down to 0.3mm then welded back in.
Before. After. Once all welded up the rims where primed and painted (not to self don`t buy motorworlds masking tape it sticks like £$%& to blanket) then cleaned with thinners to remove the masking tape glue. The rear wheels where sent off today to be banded from 6.5J to 8.5J and should be back by the weekend.

Good stuff!
Re your speedo, some of the later dashes look similar- we have an 81 with the same size speedo(cable) as a late 80s car(electric), so maybe a later set up will physically fit. you will still need to run the wires up from the diff though. If only there was a way of fitting a mechanical cable to the M47 box. james. |
