Can you not drive the Volvo back here? using ferries etc where you need to cross water?

Appreciate it will be a bit of a ball ache and take a few days but must be the cheapest way if that's a concern?

I did drive it over to Malta. I think my main concern is that it will be expensive to run and repair in the UK. Over here labour is very cheap and the MoTs are quite relaxed!
Road tax, servicing, mileage is only about 24mpg etc.

There is not much of a market for these here but there are lots and lots of "vintage" cars here just used as private cars......they have this knack for keeping them going forever. Old escorts, Morris Minors etc

Malta doesn't appear to have a throw away society they way we do here in the UK.

The car has 42k on it, it's a petrol Volvo, what realistically is going to be wrong with it?

Get it serviced and a timing belt done on it and bar a few oil changes once its here, you'll be set for a good 10 years.

Buy something more "Malta" and bring the Volvo home.

personally if your cars are in Malta, id just leave them there if your going to keep going back.

but in the uk might be worth just renting / leasing one when back in the UK. much cheaper and wouldnt have to worry about all the servicing etc

My dad just rents when he comes back, so much easier and always a nice brand new car pretty much.

Thanks, do you mean renting/hiring like from car hire companies? Or a longer term arrangement?

Both can be a good solution here in the UK, will depend how much you plan to drive here etc

Is there an online sales system for cars over there I could get a look at?

Not as far as I know but I will look into this as there must be some sort of club in Malta. To start with you can check and register on "Maltapark". They have vehicle sales.
Cheers.
