Joseph, might you have a spare engine for a 440 that runs, or know anyone who might have something like that, or would be willing to pull one for me out of a car and have it shipped?
Basically looking for a compatible Renault engine that could be easily swapped into a 1995 CVT-equipped 440 by... people who've never worked on a 440. |

Inbetween Volvo's...

Man, makes me miss all of mine. I’d love to have a 440 again, but my preference would be a Mk1, as in, no later than an ‘89 or ‘90-the front end change don’t look right IMHO. A turbo or GLTi would be lovely. Can’t remember the last time I saw one in the flesh.
Quite a collection you have: o w year on from your original post, has there been any progress on any of those? Any picture to swoon at nostalgically?

Joseph, hello, a question for you since you have a few of these and have dealt with engines: Would a 1.8-liter from a manual 440 be compatible with a CVT-equipped 440?
Found an engine to replace my 1.8-liter in the 1995 440, and it's from a manual 1.8-liter car. I was wondering if the bolt pattern could be different, or there would be some other unforeseen issue with compatibility? Many thanks in advance for any advice. My mechanics here have never worked on a 440 or with Renault engines, for that matter. (This is all happening in the US). |
