Very unlikely that a remap would improve fuel economy. Just accept the 140 for what it is.
The 140 engine is exactly the same as the 170bhp version. It's just down to a different map on the ECU. In exactly the same way as the 2.4D diseasel is the same engine as the D5.

If driven unsympathetically any engine, transmission, etc can be trashed. Also, if the engine is mapped unsympathetically (i.e big torque spikes or high boost levels if turbo-charged at low rpm) the engine can be trashed.

So is the group consensus that the best approach (if any) would be to just go with the standard 170 BHP map? It is a shame, as the engine feels slightly strangled and feels like it is just in need of a rewrite.

On the other hand the twin turbo in the T6 sadly has much more power than the transmission or tyres can handle but suffers from the dreaded turbo lag

Hi,

The 170hp version is definately an easier drive. As im sure everyone would appreciate the extra power when carrying a full load or passengers.

A nice remap on the T6 would reduce the lag and be alot more responsive.

Default MTE Swedish written premium software.

I can offer MTE's Swedish written software for most all of Volvo's turbocharged engines which will gain you significant increases in both power and torque. The way MTE approach their callibrations means that with both petrol and diesel engines you get a high torque level across a wide rev range which makes for more rapid progress on the road....more so than high claimed horse power gains which in many cases come close to the engine bouncing off its rev. limiter.

It is MTE's view that there is very little indeed to be gained by changing the software on Volvo's normally aspirated cars.

Regards, Don.

Exactly this. The 140 and 170 engine are identical, only the software is different. This means the 140 engine is worth remapping, even Volvo thought so
