I tried to separate the motor from the EGR valve housing, in order to soak the complete housing in acetone, but couldn't maneuver it off the housing. On reassembly the mounting studs and nuts are that close to the motor spindle it took several attempts to align so that the main plunger moved freely. If out less than a mill proved difficult...it must move without restriction.

That’s really interesting, I wonder if a slight movement of the motor on its mounting is what causes the detent I feel in mine…

Can't say for certain, rxtian, but I had wondered why that chap on YouTube ground back the spindle on his example. Possibly different manufacturer?

When I initially separated the EGR valve from the EGR cooler the valve moved pretty well save for approximately 5% towards the end of its travel due to a small amount of carbon build-up behind the flap. Once the flap was cleaned and the motor aligned correctly it had a crisp/clean action. Might take a few attempts to align and tighten those 7mm nuts but I had no need to grind any components.
