If so do you have an alternative solution to the manufacturer's battery as this is over Ģ200 to replace!
I know that there is some space which looks like prepared for the battery but I have never seen any battery in the PHM. What car do you have? It's interesting, how it works with the battery?

With BT module if you turn off the engine and remove the key and call is active, it will forward active call back to the cellphone speaker.

I have an 06 Model year S60 R. It has an On Call battery fault. I must admit I have not had the PHM apart so I do not know what the battery looks like.
Not sure if this will work, but if you have a look at the first link it shows the unit I have.

Hi Marek
Cars equipped with VolvoOnCall (VOC) have a backup battery in the PHM
In fact, the PHM also has a backup microphone and speaker and GSM antenna.

Reason:
  • In the event of an accident where the vehicle's battery is disconnected, the PHM backup battery has sufficient battery power to make an emergency call or a number of calls
  • In the event of an accident where the vehicle's microphone is disconnected or damaged, the PHM has an internal microphone and thus voice calls are still possible
  • In the event of an accident where the vehicle's audio system is disconnected or damaged, the PHM has an internal loudspeaker and thus voice calls are still possible
  • In the event of an accident where the vehicle's GSM antenna system is disconnected or damaged, the PHM has an internal GSM antenna and thus voice calls are still possible

There is quite a bit of well thought out redundancy in the OnCall system

The PHM, once triggered, becomes a standalone module that can make emergency voice calls even when the rest of the vehicle has been demolished around the PHM

If your system will not support OnCall, then you should make your buyers clearly aware of the fact that the OnCall system will become non functional when your replacement BT-PHM is fitted.

Especially as some people consider the Volvo OnCall as a life saving insurance policy if they have an accident!

In reality, the users who will thus deliberately disable their OnCall system should fit a sticker to the OnCall button stating that OnCall is not functional.
And insert a page in their vehicle documentation stating that it is non functional for other drivers or future owners to be aware of.

Given the highly integrated nature of the Volvo OnCall functions - integrated with CAN bus, SRS system, GPS system, etc, I would be very cautious about disabling the VOC system, as it is regarded by the manufacturer as a vital vehicle safety system.

And of course disabling the OnCall system will generate error codes in the vehicle....

I guess the GSM modem will be the same. But to be sure can you look into the PHM what type of GSM is it? I guess Wavecom Q2303A-C or Q2406A-C. If yes then it's ok.

Hi, It's just for P2 (except xc90). I tkink that Volvo has a official Bluetooth module for the P3 platform.

Well, it is working, it took a week to arrive since I paid (154 leuros), impeccably protected and packed. In the meantime I bought the Y melbus cable (18 leuros) in the link that kindly Marek sent to me and small torx screwdrivers T5,6, 8 and 10 (9 leuros)

Easy assembly with the guide on the web, just take care with the little torx screws and Itīs done in an hour or so.

Everything works as it should, exactly as before but without sim card, now I can dial (and use the phonebook) from the phone like any bluetooth, I am now on the 21st century like the rest... Much better than a parrot or similar, here the integration is total (micro, speaker, keyboard, steering wheel controls...)

The only improvement, perhaps the setup instructions, which could be better explained, setting it up is easier than it looks

Thanks Marek, shame not to have this device before, ten years or so...

Is possible because the man who designed the PHM using existing solutions was a genius. Not like other car manufacturers who creates everything own. If it's based on modules then it's easier to keep up to date . And also MELBUS protocol (communication with the Radio) is quite simple.
