The Geartronic is made by Aisin in Japan, who also supply Toyota and Lexus. I've worked on both brand the last 6-7 years and their gearboxes are bulletproof. if Lexus takes them, they're good enough for me. And yes, "sealed for life" is a load of crap, I would recommend changing/flushing the oil anywhere between 80-100k miles.

I'm happy to argue or explain how flushing works, cause I can only assume somebody would be against it, if they don't really understand how it works or thinks it's just a way to get more money from the costumer. I got a V60 with the 8-Speed Auto and recently looked up how to change the oil properly and Volvo's procedure is flushing it, so there's that.

Flushing the solution is the gold standard and the way it should be done to minimise fluid waste and ensure all the out is gone and new replaced.
Unfortunately it requires skill or equipment beyond the likes of me 🤪. I flushed it in the drive effortlessly and got old brown dark worn fluid cherry red and sweet smelling agoain for under £100.00. I do have VIDA but it’s really not required. If you leave old fluid in the valve block and box will wear out. If you renew the fluid it will last a long time (all things being equal). |

If you're going to stir trouble you can flush off....
