The compressor I bought off ebay all those years ago came with a 30 day warranty and cost £30. Was a case of just seeing how it goes. I finally sorted the AC condenser clamp leak last year with better used AC pipes and used clamp and so far AC still working. If used is £100 may be better to just invest in a new one? James. |

Your best bet would be to pick up a reconditioned/remanufactured exchange unit from someone like Rock Auto, it will likely be a Sanden and rebuilt to OEM tolerances using new parts where necessary and should come with a similar to new warranty. Valeo tend to rebuild things like AC compressors, alternators, starters etc and are generally reasonably good. They do manufacture some items themselves but a reconditioned/remanufactured unit should be stated as such.

How easy/difficult is it to service an a/c compressor?
If I'm told that the compressor is leaking I still have a spare that I would need to service before fitting... |

Because of the nature of the beast, it is a specialist only service job. Changing the worn/damaged bits is easy enough, it's being able to connect it to the right test rig to firstly diagnose and secondly test once rebuilt is where the specialist comes in as those bits of kit aren't what would be in the average DIY or even garage workshop.
