Its adequate though. Its hard enough to get to 70mph on the motorway with the traffic nowadays!

Makes sense for Sweden, the UK, the Netherlands etc where the speed limits ar between 70-80mph, but a bit of a pain in Germany.

There is something exhilarating about driving on the autobahn at 130mph (and being overtaken by a line of Porsches like you are standing still!)

Can't the limiter be removed?

Surely it can otherwise the Police are knackered during a pursuit! I’d imagine it can be mapped out but for Joe blogs like us would not be great for warranty or insurance!

It used to be possible to see the "emergency response" range on the Volvo website but not since the days of the V70 have they been publicly visible.

Essentially it's just a single software switch, so will be disabled during production for a police vehicle - which aren't normal spec anyway trending to have the lower spec interior with the highest spec power units.

Thing is, Volvo does that for the police - it will be possible with a lot of work to override any sort of software block (it's only software after all) but immediately you'll invalidate your warranty and may struggle to insure.

It's unlikely the limit is reinstated when the police offload the cars (they don't bother filling in holes in the dash or even the roof in some cases) but given most forces now run their vehicles for longer, when sold on it'll have been judged uneconomical to continue so you'd probably not want to touch one.
